Originally from Barbados, Akela Jones is a part of nine OBU school records and much more. Included in those are the indoor and outdoor records in the high jump and long jump. Plus, she has the fastest times in the 100- and 60-meter hurdles as well as the most points in the pentathlon. On top of her OBU records, she was a two-time NAIA National Champion in the triple jump, long jump and hurdles events. Jones was also named the Most Outstanding Performer at four NAIA National Meets.

Following her days as a Bison student-athlete, she went onto a storied career at Kansas State. In addition to multiple Big 12 titles, she was also a 2015 NCAA outdoor champion in the heptathlon and the USTFCCA Women’s National Field Athlete of the Year. Furthermore, Jones competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and was a World Junior long jump champion. She is the holder of numerous Barbadian records for both indoor and outdoor track.

She is the owner of Edged X Echelon, which provides handcrafted hats and accessories, uniquely designed to create wearable art.
