SHAWNEE – Sierra Copeland and
Mackenzie Crusoe of the Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball team were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Copeland, a senior, is now a three-time CSC award-winner while Crusoe, a graduate transfer, earned her first career honor. Plus, as a program, it's the third consecutive year that multiple Bison were recognized.
To qualify, a student-athlete had to have possessed at least a 3.50 grade point average, been of sophomore standing, play in 90 percent of the team's games and have legitimate playing credentials.
During her final campaign on Bison Hill, Copeland, a native of Howe, Texas, started a career-high 28 games. She shot 48 percent from the field, pulled down a career-high 5.1 rebounds per game and ranked fifth in the Great American Conference with a personal-best 31 blocks. On top of her block total, Copeland collected 43 steals, another career-high.
Crusoe's lone season at OBU was a fabulous one. She earned All-GAC First Team accolades, ranked third in the GAC with a 17.1 scoring average and was second in free throw percentage (85.2). The Choctaw, Okla., native also was slotted sixth in assists (3.2) and third in steals (2.1).
With the help of these two, OBU attained 20 wins for the first time in the Division II era and most since the 2014-15 campaign.
