SHAWNEE – Guard play was a major emphasis this past recruiting cycle for Oklahoma Baptist head coach
Bo Overton and his second signee is another backcourt player that looks to make an impact.
Her name is Katelyn Davis, a 5-foot-7 guard from nearby Choctaw and four-year varsity letterwinner for the Lady Jackets basketball program at Choctaw High.
Over her career, she was named Oklahoma 7 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was an Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA) All-State selection, earned Newcomer of the Year accolades and was a First Team All-District and All-Conference honoree.
Davis helped Choctaw to two state tournament appearances and just the past season, helped guide the Lady Jackets to the program's first undefeated regular season (24-0). Also of note, this past April, Davis was selected to the 6A All Star by Class Team.
Coach Overton's Thought:
"One of the things we were looking for, and this was two years in the making with these players, we needed speed and quickness. But also, we needed people that could get the ball in the basket. I think Kate has proven that in her high school career. She can shoot the three, has enough speed to get the basket. I think she's a player that can play every guard position."
Speaking of three-point shooting,
