SHAWNEE – Over the next week, we'll look at the incoming recruiting class that Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball coach
Bo Overton and assistant
Brennyn Seagler have put together leading into the 2024-25 campaign.
The first player, a name that might be recognized by Bison fans, is Mackenzie Crusoe. A grad transfer, the Choctaw native comes to Bison Hill after four outstanding seasons at East Central University.
She was a three-time All-GAC Second Team selection and scored 1,372 points in 99 games played, a 13.9 average. She shot 35.2 percent from deep, nearly 40 percent from the field and made 75.4 percent from the foul line. Just this past season, Crusoe averaged a career-high 16.5 points per contest. That included pouring in a pair of 30-point games against Arkansas-Monticello (1/11) and Arkansas Tech (2/3).
Also of note, on the defensive end, she notched multiple steals in 20 of 25 games played. During that Feb. 3 game versus ATU, Crusoe collected eight steals, the most by a GAC player in a single game last season.
Prior to attending East Central, Crusoe, a 5-foot-7 guard, attended nearby Choctaw High School. She was a four-year starter and helped lead the team to three state tournament appearances. That included a 2017 state championship.
Among numerous accolades, Crusoe was an Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association (OGBCA) All-State selection, McDonalds All-America nominee, an Oklahoma Native All-State honoree and Big-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Coach Overton's Thought:
"After losing our only senior
Madison Chambers, finding a more experienced wing player and guard, to replace such a good player, I felt like we needed to get a transfer. Mackenzie is from this area; we thought it was a no-brainer to have her on our team. We've played against her every year I've been coaching here. She can score the ball, she's physical and she's a tough defender. I think it's a perfect fit to add a good guard like that to our experienced roster coming back."
