SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball players
Madison Chambers,
Sierra Copeland and
Jaedyn Getman were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District First Team on Tuesday.
It marks the second straight year that multiple Bison were honored. Previously, Copeland and
Jill Leslie were recognized.
To qualify, a student-athlete had to have possessed at least a 3.50 grade point average, been of sophomore standing, play in 90 percent of the team's games and have legitimate playing credentials.
Chambers, an exercise science major with minors in natural science and sports ministry, was one of three players to start all 29 games this year. She averaged 8.3 points, dished out a team-high 77 assists and notched 35 steals. The Muldrow, Okla., native scored in double-figures nine times including a season-high 19 versus Pittsburg State. Chambers also handed out as many as six assists twice: vs. SWOSU (11/30) and Southern Arkansas (1/20).
For Copeland, a junior that's double majoring in marketing and management, she played in 27 games for OBU with 12 starts. She shot 50 percent from the field (18-of-36), pulled down 3.9 rebounds per game and registered 23 blocks, second-best on the team. During the team's Nov. 17 game against Oklahoma City University, the Howe, Texas native collected her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Getman had a sophomore season to remember. The nursing major was an All-GAC First Team member, became OBU's 26th player to ever score 500 points in a season and was among the GAC's best in numerous categories. She was second in scoring (17.5), ninth in rebounding (6.4) and third in free throw percentage (86.6). The Stratford, Okla., native reached 20 points in 11 different games, the first Bison to do that in the D2 era and poured in a career-high 27 against Washburn back on Nov. 11. Plus, she pulled down at least six rebounds in 19 games.
