RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Mary McKey and Jade Byrd have been named the Great American Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
This is the second weekly GAC honor this season for both athletes and the second consecutive for Byrd.
Byrd earns the nod after winning the Discus throw with a hurl of 148-6 (45.26) at the UTA Invitational on April 28. This marks the second first-place finish of the outdoor season for Byrd, tallying the other at the OBU Invite in March.
After posting a PR in the 400m hurdles at the legendary Drake Relays, McKey collects her second Player of the Week honor. McKey finished 11th among Division I talent with a time of 59.93, meeting the NCAA Division II qualifying mark in the event.
McKey was also a part of the Bison 4x400 relay team's fourth-place finish (3:46.89) in the event's finals. The foursome ran an NCAA Division II qualifying time of 3:46.40 to earn a spot in the finals.
