SHAWNEE – Altyn Bartley,
Mary McKey,
Asia Foster and
Kimberly McKinney each broke previous Great American Conference Championship records as Oklahoma Baptist moved into third place after the second day of conference championship competition.
In the prelims of the hammer throw, Bartley won the event with a toss of 53.63 meters (175-11.0), besting a 2024 record set previously by Southeastern's Macayla Needham (52.19m).
McKey ran to first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a prelims time of 1:00.56. That was just slightly better than a 2022 performance by McKey herself (1:00.76).
As for Foster, she crossed the finish line of the 400 prelims in 53.44. The previous best was held by Oklahoma Baptist's Cameka Witter who held a time of 54.01 set in 2019.
Lastly, McKinney dialed up a first-place finish in the prelims of the 800 with a mark of 2:11.51. That bested teammate
Shayna Hendrix's 2:12.80 time set a year ago.
All four of these marks were also NCAA provisional standards as well. Also of note, in the prelims of the 200, Foster's time of 23.74 was the best and is a GAC Championship meet record. Previously, Harding's Chelsea Howard clocked a 24.16 in 2019.
Senior
Anisha Henderson had a great day too. She won the long jump by reaching 5.96 meters. That actually tied her GAC Championship record set in 2023.
Graduate student
Valerie Olson added a first-place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.19) before taking second in the 100-meter dash (12.11).
Rounding out the top efforts by the Bison,
Delaney Riekert took runner-up honors in the 200 (24.54) while Bartley claimed second in the shot put (45-6.25).
Heading into the final day of competition, OBU has 54 points and trails Ouachita (74) and Southern Arkansas (55).
