SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist senior guard
Autumn Avina was announced as co-Great American Conference Player of the Week after leading the Lady Bison to a 1-1 mark to open GAC play last week. She shares the award with Southwestern Oklahoma State's Tyra Aska.
Â
A native of Austin, Texas, Avina tied the GAC single-game record for assists with 14 against Southeastern Oklahoma State before turning in another 14-assist performance against Northwestern Oklahoma State in a 92-83 road win on Saturday. Of the four individual performances this year in the GAC with 10 or more assists, Avina is responsible for three of them.
Â
For the week, Avina averaged 17.0 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the field, as well as 14.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds.
Â
This is the first career GAC Player of the Week honor for Avina. She is the first Lady Bison to claim the award since
McKenzie Cooper took home the honor in Week 12 of last year.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (4-3, 1-1 GAC) returns to Mabee Arena at the Noble Complex tomorrow, Dec. 4 for a 5:30 p.m. game against East Central.
