SHAWNEE – Sean Dixon and
Evan Olson of Oklahoma Baptist were named Great American Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
For both men, it's their first outdoor honors of their careers.
Dixon, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla, won the 400-meter hurdles during the OBU Invitational with an NCAA Provisional time and personal-best mark of 52.01. That currently stands as the sixth-best performance in NCAA Division II this season.
As for Olson, a graduate student from Gresham, Ore., he had a phenomenal performance in the javelin throw at the same Invitational. He threw 218-9.0 (66.69m) which was a personal-best, met NCAA standards and broke OBU's 44-year-old record. The previous benchmark was set in 1981 by Don Phillips (211-3.0). Furthermore, Olson's mark is the ninth-best total in D2.
