EMPORIA, Kan. – Oklahoma Baptist's 4x100 team comprised of
Dwayne Fleming,
Caden Peevey,
Kobe Brown and
Gage Spencer broke the school's previous record in that event during the final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
That group finished in sixth place with a time of 39.85. That mark broke the program's previous best of 40.05 delivered in the 2016 season. Plus, Saturday's performance helped the group earn First Team All-American honors.
By meet's end, OBU finished in 17th place, the best-ever finish at the NCAA Championship.
In other races, Fleming continued his outstanding junior season with All-American finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dash events. Fleming took fifth in the 100 (10.26) and third in the 200 (20.70).
Lastly, the 4x400 squad of Fleming,
Ayo Toritsju, Peevey and Brown crossed the finish line in 3:07.33, good for sixth. That, too, registered a First Team All-American honor for OBU's relay team.
