Bison Women’s Basketball opens 2024-2025 campaign at GAC-MIAA Challenge Friday night

SHAWNEE – The 2024-2025 basketball season is officially upon us, as OBU Women's Basketball hits the road to open the season at GAC-MIAA Challenge.

Bison Women's Basketball has a date with Rogers State University to kick off the '24-'25 season. The 6 p.m. matchup will take place in Claremore, Oklahoma. 

In the GAC Preseason Poll, the green and gold were picked to tie for third place in the league. In the previous season, OBU Women's Basketball finished with an overall record of 12-17 and a 9-13 conference record. The Bison maintained a winning record at home, 8-7 and concluded the season with a 4-8 record on the road. The 2023-2024 season ended for the Bison at the GAC Tournament after a loss to SNU in the opening round of tournament play. 

In the previous season, Jaedyn Getman received All-GAC First Team honors. The Stratford, Oklahoma, native, is entering her third season with the Bison. 

The green and gold are returning several key players including Getman who led the team in points per game with a 17.5 average, totaling 507 points, placing second in the GAC. Jill Leslie returns for the Bison. In the previous season, Leslie finished second in the league in blocked shots, totaling 46 for a 2.2 average. Kennedy Large is also back in the green and gold this season after placing amongst the top 20 in the conference in steals, averaging 1.5 per game for a total of 43 steals. Parker Stevenson also snagged a spot amongst the top 20 in steals with 41 total steals on the season to average 1.5 per game and will return for her second season at OBU.

This season, OBU Women's Basketball is comprised of 11 returners and four newcomers. 

The green and gold are a group with experience on their side with one graduate student, four seniors, and three juniors. The roster also includes four sophomores who all spent their freshman season at OBU, and three true freshmen. 

The green and gold have been busy grinding in the preseason. Bison Women's Basketball opened up the month with an exhibition at home. OBU hosted Nelson University for some preseason action, where the Bison walked away with an 86-52 total. The Nov. 1 matchup saw Crusoe lead the team with 13 points. Sophomore, Parker Stevenson totaled 12 points on the night while Allie Rehl and Katelyn Davis adding 11 points a-piece. 

Mackenzie Crusoe is a familiar face amongst the GAC. Crusoe comes to OBU from East Central. The grad transfer spent the previous four seasons with the Tigers. Crusoe's experience on the court has clearly impacted her integration into OBU Basketball, quickly becoming a leader amongst the team. 

Allie Rehl is a true freshman joining the Bison from Tuttle High. The Tuttle, Oklahoma, native brings with her an impressive high school career, consisting of many accolades to show the potential she brings to OBU Women's Basketball. 

Katelyn Davis is a guard from Choctaw High. The Choctaw, native, also carries a list of achievement that attest to her abilities and her future role for the green and gold. 

The final new face of OBU Women's Basketball is Jacey Hammon. The 5'8 guard comes to the Bison from Plainview High School. Similar to the other freshmen on the team, the Plainview, Oklahoma, native, is coming out of a successful final season on the court to close out her high school career with stats that show she is ready for the next level.

Rogers State Notes
  • RSU finished 10-18 overall and 5-17 in conference play in the 2023-2024 season.
  • In the MIAA Preseason Poll, RSU was picked to finish 13th out of 14 teams.
  • The Hillcats lost their leading scorer, Alayzha Knapp. Knapp totaled 486 points, averaging 17.4 per game. RSU also lost Kaya Goldsby, the team leader in steal. Alyza Aikins played a valuable role for the Hillcats and will enter her second season at RSU.
Northeastern State Notes
  • The Riverhawks ended the previous season 14-15 overall and 10-12 in conference play.
  • Northeastern State was selected to finish 9th in the MIAA Preseason Poll. 
  • The Riverhawks lost their leading scorer, Halie Jones. Jones averaged 12.5 points per game with a total of 363 points. Jones also had the best steals average for the team at 2.2. Courtney Lee, 2x All-MIAA Honorable Mention, will return for Northeastern.
