COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sophia Strange raced to a ninth-place finish at Texas A&M's Invitational on Friday to lead the Oklahoma Baptist women's cross country to a sixth-place finish overall among 13 squads.
The field, stacked with Division I teams, saw Texas A&M win the event with three placers in the top five. OBU's scorers totaled 156 points (9-30-33-39-45).
As mentioned, steering the charge was Strange, who clocked at 17:57.6 in the 5k event. Strange builds upon her success in week one, which featured her third career victory at the Rogers State Invitational.
Jadyn Pavlik followed in 33th, crossing the finish line with the second-best time (18:58.3) of her career in the 5k. Moments later, Jade Robinson claimed 38th in 19:05.4, while freshman Mekenzie Connell took 45th in 19:14.4.
Others participating for the Bison were Shayna Hendrix (56th, 19:33.2), Olivia Lynch (72nd, 19:54.1), Zoee Weaver (78th, 20:12.1), Lauren Crouch (82nd, 20:21.7), McKayla Schmitt (83rd, 20:22.7), and Zoe Strange (89th, 20:34.2).
The squad will return to the course for the DBU Old Glory Gallop on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Dallas, Texas.
