OBU Finishes Second in GAC All-Sports Awards

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist earned second-place finishes in both the annual Great American Conference Commissioner's Cup and President's Trophy awards, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bison racked up 88 points for both rewards, respectively, trailing Harding, who took top honors with 102 points in each. OBU also finished runner-up in the league's end-of-the-year recognitions a season ago.

Points for each award are earned based on each school's finish in sports that six or more schools sponsor within the conference. The regular season standings determine the points awarded for sports with a round-robin schedule, while conference championships determine the points in sports without a regular season format.

In the 2022-23 athletics cycle, Oklahoma Baptist saw the women's track and field team claim the GAC outdoor championship and softball win its first-ever regular season title before making the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

"This past season, Bison student-athletes delivered one of the most successful years in our program's history," said Director of Athletics Robert Davenport. "It is remarkable to see our programs reap the benefits of all the hard work they showcased all year. Here's to another fantastic season on Bison Hill!"

Additionally, women's basketball posted its best record in the DII era, while women's golf sent its first-ever individual participant to the NCAA regional tournament. Other notables include a runner-up finish at the outdoor championship for men's track and field, women's soccer's sixth-straight appearance in the GAC tournament final, and baseball's historic run to the GAC championship series.
