JOPLIN, Mo. – The Oklahoma Baptist women's cross country team kicked off their 2022 season with a ninth-place finish in the 5k run at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday.
OBU raced against some tough competitors, including the University of Arkansas, Pittsburg State University, Ouachita Baptist University, and East Central University - who finished 20th in the 2021 NCAA Central Regional.
The top finisher for the Bison was sophomore Sophia Strange, who finished in 17:52.83 for 27th. Following closely behind was senior Kayla McGruder (18:22.39, 47th), junior Olivia Lynch (18:31.36, 55th), and sophomore Kaylen King (18:56.23, 75th).
With these efforts, beat out GAC affiliates ECU, who finished 15th, and Ouachita Baptist, who finished 10th.
Next for the Bison is an appearance at the Chile Pepper Festival Friday, Sept. 30, in Fayetteville, AR.
