GAC Honors 150 Bison on Academic All-Conference List

SHAWNEE – The Great American Conference released its Academic All-Conference list Monday, with 150 Oklahoma Baptist student-athletes earning accolades for their work in the classroom.
 
With the second-highest number of overall selections, the Bison led the league with the most honorees in women's soccer, women's cross country, and women's golf. The men's basketball team joined Harding, Southern Arkansas, Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central with a GAC-leading five All-Academic selections.
 
Harding took top honors with 155 student-athletes earning the distinction. The GAC set a new conference record with a total of 1,269 honorees among all institutions.
 
 "The 2020-21 academic year presented our institutions, student-athletes and professors with unprecedented challenges," GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said. "For our student-athletes to achieve at a record-setting rate speaks to their impressive ability to excel in all circumstances."
 
For student-athletes to be recognized on the Academic All-Conference team, they must have enrolled as freshmen prior to the fall of 2020. In addition, their grade-point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system. The GPA shall be cumulative for the athlete's entire collegiate career.
 
Following the spring 2021 semester, OBU announced a record-setting department-wide grade point average of 3.19, while 306 student-athletes were named to the Athletics Director's Honor Roll, including 80 who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.
