SHAWNEE – In response to projected revenue shortfalls due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oklahoma Baptist University Department of Athletics announced creation of the Bison Victory Fund. Tax deductible contributions to the fund will go directly to support several initiatives directed at the overall well-being of OBU's 583 student-athletes, as well as critical facility developments that will impact every Bison program.
Â
"As we cope with the impacts of COVID-19 on our campus and operations, our number one focus remains on providing a championship-caliber experience for our student-athletes," said
Brian Dude, associate athletics director for external operations.
Â
"Each and every gift to the Bison Victory Fund is going to impact on our mission to develop Christ-like character among our student-athletes and encourage them to develop their God-give athletic abilities to their maximum potential during their time on Bison Hill."
Â
Current priorities for Bison Victory Fund donations include:
Â
- Construction and supply of the OBU Athletics Fueling Station, providing free access to healthy snack and drink options for Bison student-athletes
- Construction of a state-of-the-art team film study space in the Noble Complex open to every OBU team
- Funding for student-athlete workshops and regular guest speakers in the areas of leadership, spiritual and character development, mental health, appropriate use of social media, and more
OBU Athletics currently projects a budgetary shortfall of 30-35 percent (in excess of $100,000) for the 2020-21 school year as a result of revenue losses from season and single game football tickets, Stampede contributions, and sponsorships.
Â
More than ever, generous donations to the Bison Victory Fund are crucial to the department's ability to maintain the level of operational excellence and student-athlete support that are hallmarks of the OBU experience.
