SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist men's golf coach
Luke Coppedge officially announced his 2020 recruiting class Thursday, welcoming four new golfers to Bison Hill.
The 2020 group includes three signees from Texas and one all the way from Madrid, Spain.
The class includes Cole Chezem, from Keller High School, Keaton Dickens from Iowa Park High School, Orlando Javie Cerda from Brewer High School, and Martin Gutierrez de Mesa, an international signee from Blanca de Castilla High School in Madrid.
Chezem, from Keller, Texas, owns a career tournament low of 73.
"I chose to attend OBU because of the great community surrounding the school and the amazing student body," Chezem said. "I can't wait to make great memories at OBU."
Dickens, a three-time Texas Regional qualifier and two-time gold medalist at the Rider Raider Invitational, joins the Bison from Iowa Park, Texas. He has posted a career tournament low of 60 (-11).
"I chose OBU because it's an amazing school for both sports and education while not being too far from home, and it presents me with many opportunities for the future," Dickens said.
Gutierrez de Mesa arrives in Shawnee all the way from Madrid, Spain. He has posted a career tournament low of 66 (-6).
"I chose OBU because of the enormous trust that all the incredible people who are part of this university have placed in me from the beginning," Gutierrez de Mesa said. "Although I received other interesting proposals, the decision was very easy, because OBU is a prestigious university with which I share its values."
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Cerda owns a career tournament low of 70.
"I chose OBU because I believe it was the best fit for me not only for athletics but also academically and keeping my faith strong," Cerda said.
"Adding Martin, Keaton, Javie and Cole to a team that didn't lose anyone last year is something I'm very excited about," Coppedge said. "This team is going to be really deep and do some exciting things this year. It will be exciting to see what the new guys bring to OBU."
