What Does #RepKarip Mean to You?

SHAWNEE – For this week's #RepKarip Friday, five students from around campus shared what the phrase "Rep Ka-Rip" means to them.

The five students who participated include:
  • Brendan Boyle, a freshman Sports Management Major and member of the Charge Crew.
  • Madison Gordon, a junior Graphics Design Major. She is a member of the women's lacrosse team and co-chair of the Ka-Rip Crew.
  • Zach Frazier, a junior Marketing major and a member of the football team and Charge Crew.
  • Seth King, a junior Pastoral Ministry major and co-chair of the Ka-Rip Crew.
  • Paige Minnich, a junior Sports Recreation major and a member of the Charge Crew.

What does Rep Ka-Rip mean to you?
MG: "It's a reminder to myself and those around me to have spirit for our school. Rep Ka-Rip Friday is an opportunity to represent OBU and what we stand for. It's a day to get excited for each other despite surrounding stressors from school work and life."

SK: "Rep Ka-Rip is the hub of school spirit and athletic fan involvement. Whether through events, students sections, or just supporting our athletes on a day-to-day basis, Rep Ka-Rip looks to maximize school spirit."

PM: "Rep Ka-Rip, to me, means to be supporting our school and realizing what a great blessing it is to be at OBU. One of the biggest parts of showing support is doing our job to love others in the best way."

How do you Rep Ka-Rip?
ZF: "By wearing OBU gear and being an ambassador for the university."

SK: "By planning events, getting other students involved and showing up to games. During COVID-19, it's the day-to-day conversations and support of our student athletes."

MG: "I sometimes will wear OBU gear just to represent my school but it's more than that. It's a time to reflect and engage with the student body."

Who do you know that shows the most Bison spirit?
BB: "I believe our SGA shows the most spirit because they're always trying to get people to Rep Ka-Rip and they're always wearing OBU apparel every Friday. They also support everyone in whatever they do."

ZF: "Trey Marion because he wakes up ready to attack every day. He is the epitome of Rep Ka-Rip energy!"

What item is your favorite to wear on Rep Ka-Rip Friday?
MG: "I love wearing my lacrosse t-shirts or sweatshirts. Although we are discontinuing it next year, now more than ever I am excited to wear this gear because I'll be one of the last players getting to enter the program. This team gets to leave the legacy as the last team to walk on that field. So participating in Rep Ka-Rip is more than just showcasing my excitement for my team by wearing our gear but also for OBU because I wouldn't be here without lacrosse, and through lacrosse God has welcomed me into this amazing campus that strives for Godliness, education, love, acceptance, and friendship."

PM: "I have a Bison sweatshirt that is super comfortable and makes me feel casual."

SK: "Rep Ka-Rip Friday is reserved for my banana costume. What says "get hype" better than a large fibrous walking around campus?"

Where on campus do you see the most students Rep Ka-Rip?
ZF: "In the GC is where I see all of the athletes wearing OBU gear while getting lunch."

BB: "Definitely in the GC."

Which of your professors shows the most Bison spirit?
BB: "Dr. Linda McElroy shows the most school spirit out of all of my professors."

MG: "I would say Dr. Spillman or Ben Baxter show the most Bison spirit. They come into class every day with a smile and an excitement to teach and grow. Baxter always gets involved in the campus activities and intramurals and really interacts with students outside of the classroom and with students he may have never had before. Dr. Spillman just has an enthusiasm and is constantly challenging us to learn more and get involved."

SK: "Dr. Bobby Kelly exhibits Bison Spirit from ear to ear! Whether talking sports or showing up to games, Dr. Kelly makes Bison Nation proud!"
