SHAWNEE – No. 15 Oklahoma Baptist heads to Joplin, Missouri, to run at the Central Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 17. A berth to the team's second-straight NCAA National Championship is on the line.
Â
To qualify for Nationals with an automatic bid, OBU must achieve a top-3 finish at the regional meet. Teams can also qualify for Nationals via one of 10 at-large bid, which is how the Lady Bison qualified last year. The top two individual runners on teams that didn't qualify for the national meet will also earn a trip to the national meet.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist already has experience on the regional course after racing on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on Sept. 15 as a part of the Missouri Southern Stampede. The Lady Bison finished third that day, behind only Division I Tulsa and Missouri State, with an average time of 18:35.
Â
Saturday's championship meet will be a 6,000-meter event.
Sydney Lawrence and
Kaylee Large Crowson turned in 6k times of 21:52.2 and 22:02.0, respectively, at the regional last year.
