Bison Golfers Ready to Compete in 2017

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist men's golf begins their fall season on Sept. 11. With seven returning players, the Bison are seasoned veterans when it comes to competing in tournament play.

The Great American Conference Preview will be the first tournament for the team. It will take place at Lake Hefner North in Oklahoma City. OBU men are scheduled to participate in five tournaments this fall.

Former Bison golfer, Drew Posada, enters his second year as head coach.

"I'm excited to be building off of two wins from last year. We only lost one senior and we are adding new accomplished players to the team this year," said Posada.

Senior Dalton Rhoden begins his second season as the team captain. "I probably have the highest expectations for Dalton. He won [a] tournament last year and I know he worked hard to improve over the summer. He holds himself to a high standard so I will do the same. I know he will do a good job of welcoming new guys. I expect him to perform well and wrap up his college career with a bang," shared Posada.

"I think this fall season we will have some new guys get into the starting rotation and it will be more competitive for one of the top-five spots. I'm also really looking forward to seeing how our talent level matches up now that we can compete for NCAA DII titles," said senior captain Rhoden.

"Our other senior, Luke Garner, has a lot of leadership, he's good young man, and I'm looking forward to seeing him grow hoping he wraps his year up with us," added Posada.

"Returning junior, Shane Black is a really good asset to the team. He has experience to share with our younger guys. He is always positive, always works hard, and sets great example. He is a good student and athlete; I expect him to play even better this season and lead our new players," said Posada. "I've also been really impressed with our other junior, Hudson Hoover. He has grown a lot as a young man and player over his two years at OBU. Hudson is starting to develop as a really good player, he is confident in his game and I'm excited to see what he does this year for us."

"Mason Nutt has already surprised me quite a bit this year; I can tell that he worked hard over the summer. Last year was a learning experience for Mason. So far he has impressed me with how much he was improved. My expectations are very high because he has gotten very serious about what he wants for himself and for his team," said Posada of the returning sophomore.

"Lucas Coapman has had shoulder injury problems but he is getting that taken care of. We will reevaluate him in the spring but he has been good and patient during the process. Even though he is hurt, he is trying to get better in every way," said Posada.

"[Ryan Epperly] has been playing very well recently and he has a lot of potential. His mind is in a good place, he is working very hard in practice and I'm proud of his improvements," said Posada of the sophomore.

In addition to the seven returning players, Posada brings four new players onto the roster.

The Head Coach welcomes his brother to the team, Peyton Posada. "Peyton is an excellent player and young man, he has a lot of potential to do great things at OBU. The sky is the limit, I am expecting him to play well and to make the team better in any way he can," said Posada.

Dawson Jones is another newcomer for the Bison. "I can't say enough good things about Dawson. He is a good young man, he is dedicated and he has a lot of potential. If he continues to work hard, I believe he could really help the team in the future," said Posada.

Another new freshman is Dakota Clark. "[He] is a great player and is very smart. I can tell he is a good thinker and he makes smart decisions on the golf course. He really understands his game which could make him a steady player, helping us become more consistent as a team," added Posada.

Posada also brought in a junior college transfer into the mix this year. "Davis Farnell already has two years of experience, and he has accomplished quite a bit which will make huge impact on how he competes. He has a good work ethic and brings a lot to the table," said the second-year head coach.

"I am looking forward to seeing us do better, especially now that we can compete for a DII National Title," finished Posada.

OBU is set to begin play on September 11-12 at Lake Hefner Golf Course.
