LUBBOCK, Texas – (
First Round Results) The Oklahoma Baptist men's golf team concluded their first day at the Arbor Hotels Classic on Monday, in which they played 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament.
Through the first 18 holes at The Rawls Course, OBU was tied for fourth at 299 and led by senior
Kyle Perdew, who shot a one-under 71 to place in a tie for fourth.
Freshman
Mason Nutt finished the first round with a three-over 75 for a tie in 19th place, while another freshman
Lucas Coapman was right behind him with a four-over 76 for a tie in 29th.
Junior
Dalton Rhoden and sophomore
Hudson Hoover each finished with a 77, which is five-over par.
After the second round, OBU dropped three spots in the team rankings as they are now tied for seventh with a team total of 605. Perdew carded a nine-over 81 in the second round to finish opening day T33.
Nutt finished the day as the team leader in a tie for 26th place with a second round of four-over 76. He is seven-over par for the tournament.
Rhoden and Hoover stayed neck-and-neck with each other throughout the entire day as they carded the same score in both rounds. They each shot a four-over 76 in the second round to come to the clubhouse T41 with a nine-over par cumulative score.
Coapman wrapped up his day in a tie for 48th place after shooting a six-over 78 in the second round. He has a combined score of 10-over par for the tournament.
The lone clubhouse leader is Hayden Springer out of Texas Tech who sits at four-under 140 (70, 70). The team leader after the first two rounds is Wayland Baptist with a team total of four-over par 580 (294, 286).
Bison head coach
Drew Posada sees a lot of mental toughness in his team after "tough conditions" plagued them for most of the day. "While we did not play our best, I was very proud of the way we stayed in it," said Posada.
The Bison will tee off Tuesday morning for the final round of the tournament and Posada, being very confident in his team, believes "we will post a good number tomorrow and hopefully move up the leaderboard."
