Coming Up on Bison Hill (Aug. 29-Sept. 3)

SHAWNEE – The 2016-2017 season kicks off this week for Oklahoma Baptist University Athletics. Here's what's coming up on Bison Hill for the week of Aug. 29 thru Sept. 3:

Thursday: Women's Soccer supplies the first home match of the season as they take on Jarvis Christian College at the OBU Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. Emmily Infante notched a goal and an assist as the Lady Bison dispatched the Lady Bulldogs, 6-1 in Shawnee. Men's Soccer completes the doubleheader on Thursday night with a match against in-state rival Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m. The Bison hope to avenge a 4-0 reversal suffered in Oklahoma City last season.

Friday: Volleyball gets their season underway at the Eckerd College Invitational in St. Petersburg, Florida, with matches against the University of North Carolina-Pembroke and Kentucky State at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively. The Lady Bison went 2-0 to start their season in 2015, winning both matches by a combined score of 6-1. Men's Soccer plays their second match in as many days when they play host to St. Mary's at 7 p.m. It's the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Saturday: Men's and Women's Cross Country make the short trip to Edmond, Oklahoma, for the Central Oklahoma Land Run. The women claimed first place at the meet a year ago, while the men finished in the fifth spot. Volleyball resumes action at the Eckerd Invitational, taking on New Haven at 12:30 p.m. and host Eckerd College at 7:30 p.m. Oklahoma Baptist won a five-set thriller over Eckerd last year, led by Cadyn Laing, who tallied 13 kills while swinging .444 for the match. Football heads to Searcy, Arkansas, for their season opener against the Bisons of Harding at 6 p.m. Stegall racked up 144 total yards and two touchdowns, including a 40-yard scamper to the endzone, as OBU fell, 20-19, in overtime.
