OBU Leads NCCAA Excellence Chase

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Oklahoma Baptist leads Division I in the NCCAA's President's Award for Excellence at the conclusion of the fall sports season.

The award, which measures the overall success of the athletics programs in NCCAA, assigns point values to national championship finishes.

The formula gives 12 points for a national championship, nine points for a national runner-up and eight points for a third-place finish. Six points are awarded for fourth place and so on in descending order to one point for eighth place.

OBU has 49 points without winning a national title, having placed in the top six in every fall sport the NCCAA recognizes. OBU got nine points each for women's cross country and women's soccer, eight points for women's golf, seven points each for volleyball and men's soccer, six points for men's cross country and three points for men's golf.

Colorado Christian, which won men's golf and women's soccer, is second with 47 points and Dallas Baptist, which won women's golf and both cross country titles, is third at 45.

The rest of the top 10 includes Campbellsville (38.5), Trinity Christian (23.5), Grace (21), Cedarville (21), Southwestern Christian (15), Emmanuel (14) and Southern Wesleyan (10).

OBU won the award last year and also closed out its NAIA days with three consecutive Learfield Sports Director's Cups wins.
