Needing a bounce-back win, Oklahoma Baptist bounced back from a 7-0 deficit with 51 unanswered points and a 51-7 win over Southwestern University Saturday in front of another sell-out crowd.

"We did a good job adjusting the game plan as we went and it really worked for us," said OBU Coach Chris Jensen.

OBU dominated the line of scrimmage with 283 rushing yard on 44 carries, to go along with 185 yards passing.

"We worked really hard to keep our tempo up," said left tackle Zach Clark. "We rally around out running backs. They run so hard for us every down."

Jordan Barnes led the attack on the ground with 88 yards on 15 carries while Blake Woodard added 82 on 12 totes.

Woodard had the distinction of the longest pass play and the longest running play of the season – in back-to-back plays. He threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Derek Serowski and on the next possession went 56 yards on a keeper for another touchdown.

Southwestern scored first with fill-in quarterback Justin Pelt throwing to Kenneth Wynn for the 23-yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter.

Levi Jennings stopped Pelt in the end zone for a safety to get the Bison on the board with 4:02 left in the quarter and OBU scored on the ensuing possession, going 55 yards on six plays. Woodard found Alex Lewis with perfect touch in the corner of the end zone from 16 yards out.

Woodard, who had three touchdown passes on the day, hit Serowski for an 80-yard pass play with 9:33 left. After a three-and-out by the Bison defense, Woodard got his long-distance run in on the next play.

Woodard got his third touchdown pass with 51 seconds left in the half, hooking up with Stephan Turner on an 18-yard score for a 30-7 lead.

After a slow start to the second half, Barnes scored from 37 yards away for a 37-7 lead. He scored again from a yard out with 2:22 left in the third.

Jake Ellis finished off the scoring on a two-yard plunge into the end zone with 2:34 left in the game.

Defensively for the Bison, Jake Smith led a banged-up unit with 10 tackles and broke up one pass while Ed Morgan Jr. got a pair of sacks for 11.5 yards in losses. Jailen Garrett, Bo Bradshaw, Nelson Mederios and Clint Wilson all had interceptions.

Now 4-1, the Bison play at Southwestern Assemblies of God Saturday at 2 p.m. to open the conference season.
