Bison Rout Haskell

Despite a school-record 214 yards in penalties, Oklahoma Baptist rolled to a 47-6 win over Haskell Indian Nations University Saturday at the Hurt in Shawnee.

"We need to prepare better throughout the week," said OBU Coach Chris Jensen. "There were some that were ready to play and some that weren't. We've got to stay focused."

OBU got on the board on its initial drive after a 40-yard kick return by Jacob Cheatham. Trey Tully nailed a 27-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead 65 seconds into the game.

After Bo Bradshaw recovered a fumble forced by Zack Bishop on the ensuing kickoff, Blake Woodard scored on an eight-yard keeper for a quick 10-0 lead with 13:07 left in the first quarter.

Woodard scored on another keeper, this time from nine yards away, to complete a one-play drive set up by Ed Morgan's forced fumble, which was recovered by Kimes Gilbert. OBU led 17-0 after one quarter.

The Bison added 13 points in the second quarter on a 31-yard touchdown run by Jordan Barnes and a 26-yard touchdown run by Jake Ellis, giving the Bison a 30-0 halftime lead.

OBU got only a field goal in the third quarter – a 40-yarder by Tully.

Dawson Myers added a seven-yard scoring run and Cale Grauer scored on a 31-yard keeper in the fourth quarter.

The Bison racked up 332 yards rushing and 158 passing for 490 yards of total offense on 67 plays.

Barnes led the rushing attack with 152 yards on 17 carries, followed by Grauer with 63 yards on six runs and Ellis with 43 on five rushes.

Woodard passed for 139 yards on 10 completions in 21 attempts. Cy Stallard led the receiving corps with 40 yards on the day.

Defensively, Kimes Gilbert had 13 tackles, Ed Morgan Jr. had 12 and Brynden Pitzer had eight. Morgan forced two fumbles, Zack Bishop forced one and had one sack. Patrick Boxie had an interception. Gilbert and Bryson Beattie had two tackles for loss apiece.

Now 5-3 overall, the Bison return to Central States Football League action next week at home against Texas College. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
