SHAWNEE – Jamora Horace of the Oklahoma Baptist women's track and field team was named the Great American Conference Female Athlete of the Year on Thursday.
She's the third Bison female to win this honor. Previously, softball's Kayleigh Jones won in 2023 while tennis' Kim Moosbacher earned the accolade in 2020.
The Fort Worth, Texas native had an outstanding senior season capped off with an individual national championship in the high jump at Emporia State in late May.
During the indoor campaign, Horace was a First Team All-American in the high jump. At the NCAA's championship event in Virginia Beach, Va., she took fourth place in that competition.
Fast forward to the outdoor season, she was the conference champion in the high jump and took the No. 1 national mark with her to Emporia State. On May 23, she delivered the women's program's first individual NCAA national title when she cleared a school-record 1.87 meters. That broke a 13-year-old record set previously by OBU Hall of Famer Akela Jones (1.80m).
In addition to those honors, Horace was a two-time GAC Athlete of the Week on Feb. 3 and Apr. 20 and she earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
