ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Oklahoma Baptist men's track and field took part in two meets this weekend: the University of New Mexico Team Open and Pitt State Invite.
Out west,
Dwayne Fleming earned runner-up honors in the 200-meter dash. His performance of 21.06 was the third-best time in Division II this season and met NCAA provisional standards. In the same race,
Gage Spencer finished in 11th with a personal-best time of 21.59.
The Bison got another NCAA standard effort in the 4x400.
Kobe Brown,
Caden Peevey, Fleming and
Ayo Adelo earned third place overall in that event and posted a time, the 11th-best in DII, of 3:11.51.
Also of note in New Mexico, Adelo PR'd and took seventh in the 400 (47.73) while Spencer PR'd in the 60-meter dash (7.06). Lastly,
Boone Bennett placed earned a seventh-place finish (8.32) in the 60 hurdles.
During the Pitt State meet, there were a few solid showings.
In the 3,000-meter run,
Zachary Williams earned silver as he crossed the finish line in 8:30.90. Teammate
Emery Crayton wasn't far after, finishing in fourth at 8:35.10. Plus,
Hudson Cunningham PR'd in the race, running in 8:48.94 and placing 20th.
Other long-distance races saw
Josh Kearse, Korban Murphy, Banks and
Noah Zachary claim fourth with a time of 10:18.32.
Banks also secured a personal-best time in the 800 when he completed that event in 1:57.72. Furthermore,
Wyatt Willoughby had a personal-best heave of 13.53 meters in the shot put and
Cameron Langdon PR'd in the mile (4:20.34).
OBU's other notables included
Aaron Lyle's eighth-place finish in the high jump (1.83m), Murphy's same placement in the mile (4:14.97) and
Dustin Jennings' ninth-place showing in the 600-yard run (1:16.94).
Matthew Werschem also secured a top-10 mark in the weight throw (17.25m) to cap the Bison's best marks.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is Pitt State's Gorilla Classic on Feb. 13.
