SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist softball players
Sammie Greene and
Morgan Max were named Third Team All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) in the past day.
Greene earned her first All-American nod as a part of the NFCA while Max earned placement from the D2CCA. For Max, she's now a three-time award-winner, tying her with
Kayleigh Jones (2020-24) and Shannon Sandberg (1994-96) for most All-American certificates in program history.
It marks the third straight season that OBU had student-athletes earn top national awards.
These two were instrumental in OBU's 36-17 record and advancement to the GAC Tournament Championship during the spring.
Greene was fabulous, starting every game as the Bison's centerfielder. The GAC Player of the Year registered career-bests with a .384 batting average, a .646 slugging mark, 63 hits, 11 homers, 36 stolen bases and 45 RBI. In all, she ranked within the top eight of the conference in a whopping nine categories.
By season's end, she became the first player in OBU's 50-year history to reach 200 career hits and 100 stolen bases. Plus, she left school with 149 runs scored, the second-best mark in program history.
Max's final year on Bison Hill saw the Moore, Okla., native hit .380 with 12 doubles, 13 homers, 53 RBI and a slugging mark of .739. She also drew 37 walks, the most-ever by a Bison player in a single season. Her home-run total and slugging marks were also-top three marks in the GAC as well as her on-base percentage (.503).
She'll leave campus with the fifth-most homers (27) and RBI (132) as well as the sixth-most doubles (36).
