SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist's men's track and field team were in two locations on Friday, starting their indoor season at the OU Winter Fest and Pitt State's Boo Rogers Combined Events.
Among the highlights Friday,
Zavier Freeman delivered a third-place showing in the shot-put event at OU's competition in Norman. The sophomore reached 16.48m (54-1.00). He also earned a personal-best in the weight throw with a performance of 14.13m (46-4.25).
Also at OU,
Matthew Werschem earned bronze in the weight throw with a toss of 15.98m (52-5.25).
In Kansas, the Bison saw a few good marks at Pitt State's Boo Rogers Combined Events.
Walker Hembree and
Ethan Vandevier competed in five events and sat in fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the heptathlon. For Hembree, he had the top high jump performance (1.93m; 6-4.00) while also placing third in the shot put (11.31m; 37-1.25) Hembree also snagged fifth place in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.11 seconds.
For Vandevier, he earned seventh in the 60 (7.19) as well as the long jump competition (6.36m; 20-10.50). Rounding out OBU's efforts,
Maddox Motley took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 11.30 meters (37-1.00).
Tomorrow, the heptathlon will conclude with the pole vault, 60-meter hurdles and 1000-meter run.
