SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (1-7-4, 1-4-1 GAC) will play Northwestern Oklahoma State (8-2-2, 3-2-1 GAC) on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Ranger Soccer Field.
Earlier this season on Sept. 24, Northwestern earned a 2-1 win in Shawnee.
As for the teams' recent competition, OBU fell 2-0 at home to Southern Nazarene on Oct. 15 while the Rangers tied Southwestern, 0-0, a couple days ago. With six regular-season matches left, NWOSU is currently in third place with 10 points while OBU is sixth with four points.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in the standings qualify for the GAC Tournament. Below are notes on both teams.
Bison Notes
- OBU was held scoreless for the second time in three matches after Wednesday night's defeat to Southern Nazarene.
- It didn't help matters that the team's leading goal scorer, Lex Williamson, was out due to injury. She has scored three of the squad's 10 total goals this fall.
- The only other player to notch multiple goals this season is Hali White with two.
- Offensive production has been a main issue. OBU is sixth in the conference in goals scored (10) and points (26).
- Plus, the Bison's shot accuracy of 0.398 is 228th out of 250 D2 squads.
- The OBU defense allowed multiple goals to SNU, marking the eighth time in 12 matches that an opponent scored two or more goals.
- This fall, the Bison's 2.25 goals against average is the highest with archived statistics dating back to the 2015 season.
- Freshman keeper Jalen Cramer has started the last four matches for the Bison. She's recorded multiple saves in all including seven at East Central on Oct. 11.
Rangers Notes
- Northwestern has struggled a bit lately, going 0-2-1. All the past three matches have come at home too.
- The Rangers have statistically the best goalie in the GAC. Taylor Annen leads in GAA (.727), save percentage (.857) and shutouts (6).
- Annen's six clean sheets are 11th in the nation.
- Luana San Miguel and Christi-Anne Mills are NWOSU's most potent scorers. They have combined for 11 goals.
- For Mills, she leads the GAC with four game-winning goals and is tied for league lead with four assists.
- As a team, Northwestern does a good job on the defensive end, committing only 5.17 fouls per game. That's 11th in the country.
