SWOSU Deals Bison 2-1 Defeat

WEATHERFORD — Oklahoma Baptist wrapped up its 2025 season with a 2-1 loss at Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.

The Bison (2-11-5, 2-8-2 GAC) fell behind early as SWOSU (11-4-3, 7-2-3) capitalized on first-half opportunities. Chloe Jackson opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing off a pass from Ruth Vasquez. Later in the 41st, Kayla Abbott doubled the lead for the Bulldogs, slotting home a goal assisted by Julie Andersen.

Despite the deficit, Oklahoma Baptist controlled much of the second half, outshooting SWOSU 14-9 after intermission. The persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when Sam Sheffield netted her second goal of the season off an assist from Gabi Dover. OBU continued pressing in the closing minutes but couldn't find the equalizer against Bulldogs goalkeeper Lexi Johnson, who made four key in relief.

Bison goalie Jalen Cramer kept her team in contention with five saves, including a stop on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. By match's end, the Bison finished with a 20-15 edge in total shots.

With the 2025 campaign ended, OBU will have missed the Great American Conference Tournament for the first time in nine seasons. To show the strength of the program, the Bison had played in every conference tournament final until this fall.
