SHAWNEE – Bison Volleyball will host the Storm for a Tuesday evening meeting before hitting the road for some weekend action.
The Bison secured the 400
th career win for Head Coach,
Anna Howle, in the previous weekend of play as the host of the OBU Invitational. The five-set victory over McKendree University sealed the deal for the green and gold, tabbing a 400-166 overall record for Howle. Tonight's match between the Bison and the Storm will mark the first conference meeting of the 2024 season.
Bison Notes
- OBU Volleyball was picked to finish first in the Great American Conference in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The green and gold are coming into the 2024 season as the reigning GAC Conference Tournament Champions and the regular season co-champions.
- The green and gold went 2-1 as the host of the OBU Invitational. The Bison opened up the weekend slate with a 3-0 sweep over Cameron University. A five-set battle in game two saw UT Tyler victorious to put OBU Volleyball at 1-1 on the weekend. The Bison were bound and determined to secure Coach Howle's 400th win at home, taking the Bearcats of McKendree to five sets but ultimately ending the afternoon with a win.
- OBU Volleyball is sitting at 4-4 overall after a couple of highly competitive tournaments beginning with the SpringHill Suites invitational and the most recent, the OBU Invitational.
- At the SpringHill Suites Invitational, Jill Leslie and Avery Hellmuth were selected for All-Tournament Team honors. At the OBU Invitational, Leslie and Emily Boyer were named All-Tournament Team.
- Junior, Karsyn Hunter took the title of GAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week in the opening week of action of the 2024 season. The libero for the Bison earned a new career-high with 28 digs in a single match. Hunter went on to compile 73 digs over four matches to average 5.62 digs per set to lead the conference.
- Prior to the first regular season match, the green and gold made their way to Norman to take on the Sooners of OU for an exhibition. Bison Volleyball pulled off possibly the biggest upset in OBU history, taking down the newest SEC members.
Storm Notes
- SE was picked to finish sixth in the GAC Preseason Poll.
- In the opening week of the 2024 season, D'Nari Mills claimed the GAC Offensive Player of the Week title.
- The Storm is 3-4 after a pair of tournaments. SE opened up the season at the Reddie-Tiger Invitational finishing the weekend 1-3. At the Iceman Invitational, the Storm picked up a couple wins over Sul Ross State and New Mexico Highlands. SE fell in five sets to Texas Permian Basin. The Storm finished the weekend 2ith a 2-1 record.
- The record between the Bison and the Storm sits at 18-2 in favor of OBU since the 2009 season.
