SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist volleyball turned in one of its best defensive performances of the season to take down Northwestern Oklahoma State, 3-0, in a Great American Conference contest on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Noble Complex.
The Bison (12-4, 4-0 GAC) held the Rangers (7-9, 1-3 GAC) to just .172 on the attack while hitting .308, the second-best mark of the season, to earn their third straight victory and remain perfect in conference action.
In a first set that featured 10 ties and five lead changes, OBU was able to grab momentum in the late stages by using a 3-0 run to turn a two-point lead (18-16) into a five-point advantage. The run was sparked by a kill from
Addison Dale and concluded with back-to-back blocks by Dale and
Taya McReynolds.
Mackenzie Frazee finished out the set with a kill for a 25-19 victory.
The second set saw the Bison build an early seven-point advantage (16-9) on a kill from Dale and were never really threatened in a 25-16 second-set win. Oklahoma Baptist hit .349 in the second set, led by five kills from Dale and four each from M. Frazee and
Rylee Unruh.
In the final set, the teams would trade the lead seven times as Northwestern would find itself up 15-13 midway through. OBU responded with a 5-0 run to go back in front (18-15) and never trailed again as Dale and Unruh ended the match with a block of Kemelly Baez Miecznikoski for a 25-22 third-set win.
Lauren Safrit led all players with 13 kills while M. Frazee and Unruh each tallied 10 kills.
Emily Boyer had 35 assists and 14 digs, and
Elle Parisi collected a match-high 16 digs. Dale and McReynolds each had four blocks, and the Bison committed just 12 attack errors for the second time in three matches.
Miecznikoski had a team-high 11 kills for Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kallie Conway and Ryann Eastes each had 14 assists, while Celia Mbaya and Jadyn Padilla both had 10 digs.

OBU improved to 20-4 against NW Oklahoma State during the Division II era, picking up its sixth-straight win against the Rangers.
- The Bison are now 11-1 at home against NWOSU during the Division II era, and have won nine straight home matches in the series.
- Oklahoma Baptist has won 18 of 20 sets during its current six-match series streak.

Emily Boyer increased her career assist total to 2,903. She is now 97 assists shy of 3,000.
- OBU moved to 162-47 inside the Noble Complex during Anna Howle's tenure, while Howle earned career victory No. 448 and moved within two wins of 450.
- The Bison hit .308, their second-highest attack percentage of the season, while M. Frazee recorded 10 kills without an error on 19 attempts.

Oklahoma Baptist returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 24 when it travels to East Central for a 6 p.m. contest at the Kerr Activities Center. The Bison will host Harding (Oct. 1) and Arkansas Tech (Oct. 2) before making their next road trip.
