MUSKOGEE – Oklahoma Baptist's
Morgan Simmons and
Gimena Errecart posted two impressive second rounds as the Bison climbed to eighth during the 25th Annual Northeastern State Golf Classic.
After sitting in 13th following the first round, the Bison turned in a much better second and rose to eighth place. There were 19 schools in attendance including GAC competitors Harding, Arkansas Tech, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Southern Arkansas and Henderson State.
For Simmons, who finished in a tie for 18th, her second round included an eagle on the par-five No. 15 hole. She ended with a one-under par (70) during Tuesday's competition. To boot, Simmons was one of only four players to card an eagle in round two.
As for Errecart, for the second straight tournament, she led the team. Errecart was slotted in a tie for 11th with two others after shooting one-under (70) on Tuesday. The sophomore from Argentina bogeyed just twice during the final round as well.
There was a bit of drop off for the Bison after Simmons' and Errecart's performances. Checking in at 61st was
Josefina Serres Scheffer. She was plus-five (76) after the first but couldn't find a groove in round two (82). Teammate
Marta Romero Crespo also finished in a tie for 61st after firing a 77 and 81 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
OBU's last scorer was
Rylie Spaulding who finished in 71st. She carded a pair of nine-over pars in each of the rounds.
Also competing, as an individual, was
Stella Vanmeter who finished in 98th.
The Bison have next week off before returning on Sept. 23-24 during the Jersey Mike's OBU Invitational at the Shawnee Country Club.
