ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Oklahoma Baptist junior
Morgan Simmons steadily improved over the three-day NCAA Division II Central Regional Championship which ended on May 6 at St. Joseph Country Club.
OBU's All-GAC Second Teamer has now played in back-to-back regionals, and for the program, it's the fourth-straight season the green and gold have either qualified as a team or sent an individual to the Central Regional.
The tournament started tough for Simmons who had a couple double bogeys and was nine-over (45) after the front nine. After that, the Memphis, Tenn., native returned to good form.
On the back nine Monday, she pared seven of nine holes.
Tuesday's second round saw more consistency from Simmons, OBU's top golfer. She fired a seven-over 79, shaving four strokes off her first-round total.
Then during the final round Wednesday, Simmons dialed up a trio of birdies and seven other pars. That helped her finish with a five-over 77. By the end of the tournament, she finished tied for 33rd place.
Simmons' finish was the fourth-best by a GAC individual competing in St. Joseph.
