SHAWNEE –Oklahoma Baptist's
Alex Schroeder,
Troy Shields and
Isiah Lissade became the first trio of Bison in the Division II era to earn All-Central Region First Team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
The next closest occurrence was in 2022 when Schroeder and
Kade Self were first-teamers while
Dan Pruitt landed on the second team.
With all three being named to the first team, they will move on to All-America balloting in the coming weeks.
Among some of the highlights this season, Schroeder's 22 homers were second-best in the nation as well as his 87 RBI. That latter RBI total was also the second-highest mark by a Bison player in OBU history. By the end of the 52-game season, Schroeder left OBU and the Great American Conference with 66 career homers, most all-time. Those 66 bombs are also most among active NCAA career leaders.
For Shields, his senior year was one to remember. He was named GAC Player of the Year, finishing with 20 homers, 77 RBI and a .737 slugging mark. Not only were those personal-bests but two of those stats (HR, RBI) were top-ten Division II marks. One of his most noteworthy performances was at Northeastern State on April 24. In that game, he finished with nine runs batted in, the most by an OBU player in a D2 contest.
Lissade's final season in Shawnee was remarkable too. He was littered all over the NCAA stat rankings including: 41st in hits (78); 13th in runs (70); 50th in triples (4) and 94th in on-base percentage (.488). Lissade also ranked 10th in the GAC with a .626 slugging mark. Among a lot of memorable moments, his performance versus No. 14 Missouri Southern on Feb. 27 brought the program's first-ever cycle in a D2 game.
