RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist left fielder
Tui Amosa earned All-Great American Conference First Team honors on Wednesday as the league announced it end-of-year awards.
In addition to Amosa,
Keenan Morris garnered All-GAC Second Team accolades while
Kody Bialas and
Quinn Johnson made the honorable mention squad.
Off the diamond, Bialas earned Elite Scholar Athlete status, marking the third time in the last four seasons the OBU program has put a student-athlete on that list.
Amosa's season was outstanding for the green and gold. He ranked in the top-10 of the GAC in seven different categories. That included the second-most doubles (20) and sacrifice flies (7) as well as the second-best batting average (.407). At one point, Amosa had a 16-game hitting streak and had seven different games with three base hits. Of note, Amosa is the first Bison player in a decade with 20 doubles.
For Morris, an infielder, he earned all-conference honors for the first time. He batted .329, dialed up 55 hits, 11 doubles and 34 RBI over 45 games played. The Eureka, Calif., native had a 12-game hitting streak during the season and posted a trio of games with four hits.
Rounding out OBU's honorees were Bialas and Johnson.
Before injury, Bialas was one of the top pitchers in the GAC. He posted a 3.18 ERA, which would have been the second-best mark in the league if the junior had reached enough pitching appearances. Bialas also struck out 41 and limited opponents to a .207 batting average. During a Feb. 8 contest with Missouri St. Louis, he fanned 12 over 7.1 innings pitched, both season-bests.
As for Johnson, his 14 doubles were 12th-best in the GAC. The Sydney, Australia native ended up batting .345, collected 57 hits and had a team-high 18-game hitting streak during the year. Johnson had 19 multi-hit games including a 3-for-5 performance with a season-high four RBI on Feb. 28 against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
