Bartholomew and Schmidt Earn All-Region, Punch Tickets to Nationals

SHAWNEE – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Trey Bartholomew and Steven Schmidt as 2024 Division II Indoor All-Region honorees this week.

As a result of their high-ranking marks in the Heptathlon and high jump on the national leaderboards, respectively, the duo qualified for the 2024 Division II Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State this weekend.

Schmidt will begin competition in the Heptathlon on Friday at 10:00 a.m., while Bartholomew will participate in the high jump on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Bartholomew, a sophomore, recorded the fourth-best regional mark in the high jump. His leap of 2.13m (6-11.75) was a career-best and won the event at Pittsburg State's Rumble in the Jungle Invitational on Jan. 19.

Nationally, his clearance ranks 10th going into this weekend's national meet.

This is Bartholomew's first All-Region honor and second trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships. A season ago, he collected an All-America honorable mention nod in the same event after finishing 15th with a leap of 2.05m (6-8.25).

Bartholomew became the first Bison, alongside teammate Isaiah Willis, to earn an All-America recognition in a field event in program history.

Schmidt is no stranger to this accolade, as he has earned All-Region honors four other times in his career. This season, he garnered the committee's nod for the fifth time in the Heptathlon with the region's second-best total of 5,504 points, earned on Feb. 2 at the Washburn Open.

The mark was just 15 points less than the all-time OBU record of 5,519 points, set by Jonathan Hilton in 2009. Furthermore, it broke the meet and facility records. Nationally, the total stands third.

Schmidt, a transfer from Northwest Nazarene, has recorded All-Region honors in the Heptathlon (2023, 2022), pole vault (2023), and high jump (2023). This will be his second straight appearance at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships.

At last year's event, he claimed third in the Heptathlon after compiling 5,523 points (career-high).
