SHAWNEE – Following last week's results, Oklahoma Baptist has put itself in great position for the postseason with three Great American Conference matches left. On Oct. 30, the Bison will head to Ada to face East Central. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
Earlier this season on Oct. 2, OBU defeated the Tigers 4-0 as
Olivia Kenas scored twice.
Currently, OBU is in third place with a 5-6-3 overall and 4-3-2 GAC record. With 14 points, the Bison trail Southern Nazarene and Ouachita who have 15 points.
The green and gold are on a remarkable run against ECU: they have not been beaten in the last 18 matches. Plus, historically, the Bison lead the series 15-2-4.
Here are notes on both squads leading into the mid-week matchup.
Bison Notes
- Sam Sheffield assisted on both game-winning goals last week against Ouachita and Harding. She's got three this year, most among all freshmen in the GAC.
- Lex Williamson and Sophie Jordan provided those goals. They each have scored twice for the Bison in 2024.
- Freshman keeper Claire Stoermer held her own last week. In 180 minutes of action, she stopped eight shots and posted a 0.50 goals against average.
- Stoermer is third in the GAC with four shutouts.
- There is a three-way tie in the league for top goal-scorer. Kenas has four, as does Carmen Gunn (Harding) and Abbie Morris (East Central).
- Furthermore, Ashley Bell and Alanna Bloomingdale each have four assists, one off the GAC lead.
- In the previous matchup with ECU on Oct. 2, the Bison defense held the Tigers to just three shots on goal.
Tigers Notes
- Like the Bison, ECU went 2-0 last week with wins against Northwestern and Southwestern.
- The Tigers are in a tie for fourth place in the GAC with 13 points (4-4-1 record).
- Kaylee Bruce, the GAC's Offensive Player of the Week, is fifth in the league in shots (2.67).
- Morris, who is mentioned above, is tied for the GAC lead with two game-winning goals. She's also tied for second with nine points.
- Paige Jones ranks top-five with three assists.
- In goal, Madison Mayhall is second in the conference with five shutouts and saves per game (6.27). She earned GAC Goalie of the Week on Oct. 28.
