SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist will try and shake off a two-match Great American Conference losing streak when it heads to Southern Nazarene on Oct. 16.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wes Harmon Field at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex. Over the last 15 matchups in the series, OBU has lost just once to the Crimson Storm. That came a year ago, a 2-0 SNU victory in Shawnee on Sept. 20. Remarkably, OBU has not lost in Bethany over the last six contests dating back to Oct. 18, 2016.
The Bison were defeated 2-1 against Ouachita and 4-1 versus Harding last week. Those results moved OBU's record to 3-5-2 and 2-2-1 in GAC play. Currently with seven conference matches left, the Bison are in fourth place in the league.
As we get ready for Wednesday's SNU matchup, here are notes on both teams.
Bison Notes
- Olivia Kenas scored against Harding this past Saturday. With that, she leads the GAC with four goals.
- Classmate Alanna Bloomingdale is also at the top in assists. She's got four, tied with Ouachita's Teagan Jaussi.
- Plus, junior Ashley Bell has three helpers.
- As a team, the Bison are slotted third in goals scored (12) and assists (9).
- Emma Teague and Lex Williamson are both slotted top-10 in the GAC in shots on goal per game.
- Freshman Sam Sheffield has also provided a scoring threat, ranking third on the team with 10 shots on goal.
- The Bison defense will look to rebound after allowing six goals last week. The multiple goals allowed to back-to-back GAC opponents was just the fourth occurrence in the GAC era (2015-pres.)
Crimson Storm Notes
- SNU is coming off a 1-1 tie with Ouachita on Oct. 12. The Storm's record is 4-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league action.
- Three of SNU's four wins this season have come at home.
- Offensive standout Bella Morgas ranks tied for second with three assists as well as fifth in shots on goal per game (1.20) and second with seven points.
- Defensively, SNU is pretty good, limiting opponents to 4.3 shots on goal per game.
- Goalie Gianna Bonnett leads the conference with a 1.02 goals against average and ranks third in saves (33). Her three shutouts are also tied for the GAC lead.
