EDMOND, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist women's golf team cut its strokes by 13 to climb two spots up the leaderboard in the second round to place eighth at Central Oklahoma's Grace Shin Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
OBU shot 14-over-par on the final day of the stacked tournament that saw Central Missouri take first place after Mia Rallo earned individual medalist honors with a 2-under-par card.
The Bison tallied the second-most (23) birdies of the 16-team event, led by Morgan Becker's nine, which was the most of any participant. After sinking a career-best of five on Monday, Becker added four to her total.
Becker steered the Oklahoma Baptist charge with a 1-over 72, cutting her strokes by one to finish 3-over-par after 36 holes and claim a tie of sixth. The sophomore sunk three birdies to highlight a team-best 2-under-par run on the back nine.
Morgan Simmons shot six spots up the leaderboard after turning in a 4-over 75 to place in a tie for 20th. Simmons also had a stellar run on the back nine, firing 1-over-par with two birdies.
Josefina Serres Scheffer, who turned in a match of the team's lowest round yesterday (73), shot 9-over par to place in a tie for 33rd. Gimena Errecart and Sam Lehr notched ties for 56th after firing 16-over-par for the tournament.
Errecart shaved her shaved strokes by 10 with a 3-over 74, good for a 23-spot jump, while Lehr shot four strokes better than Monday.
Rylie Spaulding and Valentina Nunez-Butzonitch carded final rounds of 89 (+18) and 88 (+17) to finish in a tie for 80th and 82nd, respectively. Ramsey Gunter and Kloee Nichols rounded off OBU's participants with final placings of 84th and 90th.
Oklahoma Baptist returns to the links on Monday, Oct. 23, for the 2023 Tulsa Cup at the Club at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow, Okla.
