MONKEY ISLAND – Morgan Simmons earned a tie for 19th place during the three-day Central Spring Preview at Shangri-La Country Club.
As a team, Oklahoma Baptist wound up in 11th place out of 17 teams. Arkansas Tech won the overall team title while Central Oklahoma and Southwestern Oklahoma State rounded out the top three.
Two of Simmons' three-round performances were solid the last few days. On Sunday, she fired an even-par 72 which included an eagle on the par-5 18th hole. Then on Tuesday, she was one-over. The Memphis, Tenn., native posted 15 pars during the final round.
OBU's next-best finisher (t48th) was freshman
Priscilla Gant. After shooting an 80 (+8) during the opening round, Gant came back with plus-5 (77) and plus-6 (78) efforts. On Monday, Gant pared 14 of 18 holes and ended with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. During the final round, Gant posted three birdies plus an eagle to highlight her day.
Senior
Sam Lehr followed in a tie for 57th. Her first-round effort was her best. She shot a 76, which was four-over par, and pared 14 of the 18 holes. Lehr added three strokes to her second-round total, though she did earn a trio of birdies during Monday's round.
Rounding out the Bison's efforts were
Paisley Eason (t77th) and
Emilee Pierce (85th). For Eason, she got into a groove in the last 24 holes which included pars on 19 of those and a birdie on the 11th hole on Tuesday. Eason finished three-over (75) during the final round.
Next on the schedule for OBU is the GAC Championships in Tulsa at the Page Belcher Stone Creek Golf Club from April 13-15.
