SHAWNEE – Kayleigh Jones had already etched her name in Bison softball lore with the program's first-ever no-hitter in a Division II game on Feb. 12 against UC-Colorado Springs. The standout pitcher then added another no-no a little over two months later at home against Henderson State.
Jones' second no-hitter came during an 8-0 victory against the Reddies on April 29. By game's end, she helped the Bison attain a higher seed for the GAC Tournament which was set to start a week later.
Over the course of the one-hour, 10-minute game, Jones didn't allow a hit, struck out eight batters and induced four groundouts. She did this on just 68 pitches. Jones also didn't allow a single Reddies player to reach scoring position.
At the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, the Claremore, Okla., native had had a year to remember: she was an All-GAC First Team selection, attained a school-record 304 strikeouts, a total that was fourth-best in the country, and she was a three-time GAC Pitcher of the Week honoree.
