SHAWNEE – There was much to play for on Nov. 9, 2021 when OBU hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State at the Noble Complex during Professor Appreciation Night.
The green and gold were looking to avenge an early-season, five-set loss to the Bulldogs and, more importantly, climb into sole possession of first place in the Great American Conference. A victory over the Bulldogs on this Tuesday night, would virtually ensure the Bison a third-straight GAC Regular Season Title.
Led by
Taneyah Brown, who tallied 15 kills and five blocks, the Bison won in four sets and took control of the GAC. Aiding Brown was all-time program great
Malia Leatherland who contributed 13 kills and 16 digs while
Kaylee Buell handed out 49 assists.
Defensively, OBU was awfully good. By the end of the match, SWOSU had attained a .100 attack percentage. In the first and third sets, the Bison allowed hitting marks of -.062 and .025, respectively. Plus, OBU collected 12 blocks.
The victory boosted OBU's record to 20-3 and 13-2 in league play. Two days later, the Bison swept Southern Nazarene for the conference's regular-season championship.
