SHAWNEE – In their final contest, the Oklahoma Baptist women's tennis team used dominant play from singles to come-from-behind and defeat Southwestern College (Kan.) 4-3 on Monday afternoon at the Bison Tennis Courts.
After an emotional ceremony before the start of the contest, the Bison came out focused to close their season with a win.
OBU dropped a tough double point, but picked up a some momentum from No. 1 doubles as
Jenna Noel and
Lin Xin Tan battled to take a thrilling 7-6 (5) victory and carry some momentum over to singles play.
It was evident it sparked a rally as the top four players all picked up wins to complete the comeback. Tan rolled at No. 1 singles to a 6-4, 6-1 win while
Gabrielly Lamas earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Vera Anagrova took home a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles while Noel clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Along with
Rylie Helm and
Elyce Clark, it was a storybook ending for the six women who made up the Bison program in 2021.
On the men's side, the Bison would fall by the score of 5-2. OBU dropped the doubles point, but got a strong performance at No. 1 doubles from
Kaey-Den Tan and
Rhett Rollins as they dominated to a 6-0 victory.
The two continued to play quality tennis in singles play as Rollins rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles while Tan earned a hard fought 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. However, OBU could not complete the comeback and fell short.
The OBU women's season comes to a close while the men go into their final regular season match on the road tomorrow afternoon against Emporia State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
