SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's tennis team got back into the win column on Tuesday afternoon as they rolled to a 5-2 win over John Brown at the OBU Tennis Courts.
The Bison earned the doubles point in thrilling fashion to take control of the match early on.
Rhett Rollins and
Kaey-Den Tan earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, but John Brown responded with a win at No. 2 doubles to even things up.
The attention turned to No. 3 doubles where
Kyler Melton and
Matthew Ford earned an outstanding 7-6 (11) win to give the Bison the key doubles point.
That momentum carried over to singles play as Tan picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles while Rollins earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
Melton clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles while Brewer increased the lead at No. 1 singles with a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6) win.
Adam Spencer added a win in a match that didn't count in team points at 8-3.
On the women's side, the Bison fell to No. 4 Central Oklahoma by the score of 7-0.
The Bison will return to action on Saturday as the OBU men will take on Ouachita while the women will battle Ouachita and Henderson State in Arkadelphia.
