SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's tennis teams were finally able to open up their home season as they welcomed Tabor College and rolled to a pair of victories, earning a sweep on the men's side and a 6-1 victory for the women.
On the men's side, the Bison rolled to the doubles point earning wins on all three courts.
Kyler Melton and
Christian Siegle led things off with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, while
Matthew Ford and
Rhett Rollins followed closely behind with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Though the point was clinched, the Bison finished it off with a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles from
Kaey-Den Tan and
Aaron Brewer, 6-1.
OBU carried that over to singles competition as Rollins started it off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles followed by a 6-0, 6-1 victory for Tan at No. 2 singles. Brewer would clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
The Bison rounded things out with a 6-3, 6-3 win by Ford at No. 3 singles, a 6-1, 6-2 win by Siegle at No. 5 singles, and a 6-1, 6-2 win by Melton at No. 6 singles.
On the women's side, the Bison also swept the doubles point as
Jenna Noel and
Vera Anagrova swept No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory followed by a 6-2 victory by
Elyce Clark and
Rylie Helm to clinch the point.
Gabrielly Lamas and
Lin Xin Tan added a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Lamas led off No. 4 singles with a win, 6-1, 6-0, while Noel drew OBU one point near victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Anagrova would clinch the match with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Tan would win a grueling match at No. 1 singles in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5, while Helm added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
OBU will return to action on Saturday morning as they head to Maryville, Missouri, to take on Northwest Missouri State.
