SHAWNEE – After starting the year on the road against a pair of Division I opponents, the OBU men's tennis team returns to Bison Hill for its home opener against Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. The Bison will look to pick up their first win of the 2020 spring season after falling to SMU and Texas-Arlington last week.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist leads the overall series against the Eagles, 2-0, having won the teams' first matchup in 2016 by a score of 8-1. Last year, TAMUT made their way to Bison Hill, dropping a competitive contest to OBU, 4-3.
Â
The Eagles return four players from last year's team, along with a pair of new additions. TAMUT finished 7-7 in 2019, and are currently 1-0 in 2020 following a 6-1 win over Centenary College.
Â
OBU senior
Matias Le Fort, who will be playing his last home opener as a Bison, is 1-1 on the short season at the No. 4 singles spot as he will look to stay above .500 come Saturday. Le Fort was the lone OBU player to win a match against SMU on Feb. 1, defeating the Mustangs' Juna Jose Bianci, 7-6, 0-6, 11-9.
Â
Junior
Bruno Suiama, a transfer from Crowley College, will be playing in front of the home crowd for the first time as a member of the Bison where he will be seeking his first victory of the season.
