SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team returns to the floor after a roller coaster week as they take on the top team in the GAC in Southeastern Oklahoma State before hitting the road to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The Bison take on the Savage Storm at 7:30 p.m. inside the Noble Complex with Todd Miller and Scott Wanish on the call on KGFF with live video on obubison.com. The Bison will battle Bulldogs on Saturday at 1 p.m. following the women's game. That game will feature Miller and Wanish on KGFF.
OBU sits at 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the GAC as they are currently in fifth place in the conference will still plenty of basketball to play. Last week, OBU dropped their first home contest of the year to Ouachita 64-62 before responding with a thrilling 78-77 win over Henderson State thanks to a game-winner from
Rashad Lewis.
Lewis is second on the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game to go iwth 3.8 assists per game and 1.2 steals per game. Lewis had miss a game-winning 3-point attempt in the loss to Ouachita before knocking down the game-winning fade away floater on the base line to give OBU a much needed victory. Lewis scored 14 of 5 of 6 shooting to go with eight assists in the win.
Jaquan Simms leads the way with 12.9 points per game on 40 percent shooting from behind the arc and responded nicely after a rough shooting spell with 15 points and five boards in the win over Henderson State. Simms also leads the team in steals with 1.2 steals per game.
Harrison Stoddart comes off a big weekend as he scored 16 against Ouachita before responding with 18 in the win over Henderson State. Stoddart shot upwards 60 percent on the weekend and is shooting 55 percent on the weekend including 11.3 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Jarius Hicklen has scored in double digit in four straight games including 13 points against Ouachita and 10 against Henderson, despite a tough shooting night against the Reddies. Hicklen has shot up to 9.1 points per game and shoots 39 percent from behind the arc.
Dishon Lowery is also coming off a nice weekend with 10 points and eight boards against Ouachita and 11 points and six boards against Henderson State. Lowery averages 9.0 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Brantly Thompson comes off a quiet week, but is still a key player for OBU going into the big weekend. Thompson averages 8.3 points per game and has picked up his assists numbers at 60 on the year.
OBU took on Southeastern in Durant way back on November 21 and fell 94-79 led by a pair of 11 points scorers in Lewis and
Mohammed Abubakar. Southeastern was led by Kevin Buckingham with 21 points, A'Torey Everett with 19, Kellen Manek with 18, and Adam Dworsky with 12 points and 11 assists.
Southeastern checks in at 17-4 and 11-3 in the GAC and is ranked 19th in the nation in the D2CCA polls while holding a one game lead in the GAC Standings.
Buckingham leads the way with 21.8 points per game on 59 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc to go with 7.5 rebounds per game and 38 steals. Dworsky adds 14.4 points per game including 44 percent from behind the arc and 181 assists. Kayo Goncalves adds 13.0 points per game, Manek checks in at 12.9, and Everet has 10.6.
OBU and SWOSU played a wild contest in Shawnee in December 14th with the Bison taking a 113-96 as a combined 86 free throws were shot in the contest. Simms led the way with 22 points and seven boards while Stoddart scored 17, Thompson had 13 points and 14 boards, Lewis had 13, and Hicklen had 13. SWOSU was led by Marquis Johnson with 31 points while Jaylan Williams had 14 points.
Damion Thornton leads the Bulldogs with 20.2 points per game on 54 percent shooting from the field as well as 7.8 rebounds per game and 40 steals while Johnson adds 11.4 points per game including 42 percent from behind the arc. Williams scores 10.4 points per game.
