Bison Battle Back-to-Back Nationally Ranked Opponents

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's tennis team seeks its first 2-0 start since the 2015-2016 season after a dominant season-opening win against Texas A&M-Texarkana.

Standing in the way is No. 15 Midwestern State. The Mustangs will be making their way into Norman, Okla. for a neutral site match Friday, Feb. 12 at 2:30 p.m. This will be OBU's second match of the season.

Following Friday's match, OBU will turn around and host No. 12 Angelo State Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. Later that day, OBU will take a break from the nationally ranked opponents and welcome Missouri Western St at 3 p.m.

This will be the third year MSU and OBU have met and the Mustangs' first visit to the OKC area since 2017. Both previous meetings have gone in MSU's favor including ast year when OBU fell just short to the Mustangs, 4-3, despite singles victories from current Bison Kim Moosbacher and Ethne Dowling.

Moosbacher is 2-0 in singles against MSU, having gone against the Mustangs' Bianca Duff both times. The senior from Cologne, Germany will have to find a different victim this time around as Duff graduated last year.

Midwestern St. returns six players from last year's team, including No. 43 in the nation Casie Curry, compared to the Bison's returning five, including No. 9 ranked Moosbacher. The Bison bring in seven new players compared to Midwestern's two.

Last year was the first year OBU and Angelo St. have faced off. The Rambelles got the better of the Bison that day, taking the match 4-0.

In that match, Moosbacher was up a set, as well as being up 3-1 in the second when the match was called. Similarly, OBU's Tahlia Walsh was at one set a piece and up 1-0 in the third with her opponent before the match was clinched.

No. 25 Valentina Gonzalez, Moosbacher's opponent from last year, leads the Rambelles. Gonzalez and her doubles partner Ena Ovcina come in as the No. 4 doubles team in the nation.

To close out the busy weekend, OBU will host the first meeting against the Missouri Western Griffons in program history. MWU comes into the match with a 2-2 record, having won their last match against Truman St. 6-0. This will be the Griffons' first road match of the season.
